Sydney Ports Corporation has recently contracted SIGNALIS for the delivery of a world’s best practice vessel surveillance system for both Port Botany and Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour). The system is being designed to accurately track all vessels using the latest Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) technology and will combine information derived from multiple sensors including radar, CCTV, VHF and AIS technology, displayed and recorded in a flexible and integrated traffic image.  The project is replacing the current system, in sevice for the past 10 years.

The system being implemented for Sydney Ports Harbour Control will be compliant with international standards established by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) for VTS.  A VTS integrated situational display system improves Sydney Ports’ capability to safely manage the interaction between ships and small craft, whilst improving the quality of the information available to the VTS operators who efficiently manage the two Ports.

This important project will complement the investments Sydney Ports is undertaking such as the $1 billion Port Botany Container Terminal Expansion which will double the handling capacity at the port to meet the projected long-term trade growth for NSW.  Daronmont Technologies is contracted to be SIGNALIS’s Australian partner – co-ordinating the engineering and project management effort in Sydney, training Sydney Ports Corporation staff and assisting SIGNALIS in the commissioning and ongoing maintenance and support of the Sydney Ports VTS.
